What Is a Match Pool Exception?

A Match Pool Exception is the process that allows a manager’s discretion to permit an advisor to be or not be matched with other FAs on Practice Exchange. For buyers, this means not appearing in Seller's Meeting Room matches. For Sellers, this means not having access to the Meeting Room.

The following situations will need exceptions to continue:

  1. AMPs with less than 3 years of service

  2. Advisors on Performance Improvement Plan / below minimum production ($200K revenue)

  3. Advisor's who do not meet the licensing requirements (Series 7 and Series 66) or (Series 63 and Series 65)

There may also be different scenarios where a Match Pool Exception is required.

How to Make a Match Pool Exception

Match Pool Exceptions can only be made by Raymond James personnel who have access to the Admin View of Practice Exchange, which would include the Succession and Acquisition Team. Practice Exchange will track exceptions and reasons.

If you are authorized to make a Match Pool Exception and there is a scenario that requires an exception to be made, follow the steps below to make one.

1. Ensure you are logged in to the correct Practice Exchange affiliate site for the financial advisor you are granting a Match Pool exception

2. Navigate to the Admin View

3. Go to the Advisor Inventory or Users page (in the images below, the path beginning at the Advisor Inventory is illustrated)

4. Using search, enter the name of the user you are making the Match Pool Exception for

5. Click on their name or within the row to open their user drawer

6. Go to the "Overview" tab and select "Enterprise Supplied".

7. Scroll down to the Match Pool Exception checkbox and select it.

8. You will see a pop-up labeled “Mark as Exception?” where you will select a reason for the exception. You can also add some details for further documentation. Click “Mark as Exception”.

Note: The reason for the exception will be shown in an email to the user’s manager, but not to the user themselves.

9. You will see the Match Pool Exception checkbox has been checked and a dialogue banner at the top of your screen confirming that the user has been updated and the exception has been made.
