Using the Meeting Room as a Successor

As someone looking to acquire a firm or become a successor, you need to be invited to a Meeting Room by a retiring advisor.

If the algorithm finds your firm to be complementary to that of a retiring financial advisor who is a user on Practice Exchange within the same affiliate as you, your Practice Exchange profile will appear in their Matches. Once you appear in their Matches, they will have the ability to review your profile and invite you to their Meeting Room. This is why making sure your profile is complete and eye-catching is crucial as it will differentiate you from other matches.

Getting Invited to a Meeting Room

When you are invited to a Meeting Room, you will receive an email invitation to your inbox. Click on the button in the email to go to the Meeting Room.

You will see a platform notification beside the "Meeting Rooms" menu heading the next time you log in. You can also click there to access the Meeting Room.

You will notice you have received a business teaser from the retiring advisor for you to review. A teaser is a document that contains a firm’s overview and highlights.

If you’re accessing the Meeting Room for the first time, you will see spotlights with short explainers of each section. Make sure to read each of these spotlights as they will help you understand how the Meeting Room works and only appear once.

Before submitting an expression of interest it’s important to carefully review the confidential business teaser. The intent of the teaser is to give you, the buyer or successor, just enough information on the practice’s financials, products and customer demographics to peak your interest. An important aspect of the teaser is that it is anonymous.

Review the FA’s teaser in the “Accepting Expressions of Interest” stage of the Meeting Room process. It’s the blue slide deck in the middle of your page.

Use the arrows at either end of the teaser to scroll back and forth through the teaser’s pages.

Once you’ve reviewed the teaser, you can determine if you want to submit an expression of interest to the user or if you’re not interested in their opportunity.
